Description

Revision: 2/2023:  The workup for this image took place in the workup of my image

NGC 7023. Iris Cropped to the Core

But this is the wider field presented as a revision to that image.  Since I already had the Iris from this earlier post and some data came to this image, I thought that I would replace the old version with the newer, which is sharper, cleaner, and better color corrected.  Cropped to the Core, is a much closer image and seen with "sun glasses" on, so that we can see the gory details of the inner Iris.  So this is a way to get the revision version there to you at full resolution.  This is a weakness of the Revision system here, that viewing revisions does not allow the viewer the ability to see the same resolution as for the Final.

Old Description:
Taking a break from galaxy acquisition and processing to get this deep sky target. Though still relatively low on the horizon at this time of the year, I thought I would have a go at it. I may revisit at a time of the year that I can get most of the subs at a higher altitude.

It is amazing how the whole frame is dominated by cold dust, other than that one hot star. In fact, from what I can tell, the dark dust clouds are a lot more extensive that what my field of view can capture.

Description: After watching Adam Bloch's tutorial on the PixInsight Weighted Batch Pre-processing batch script, I decided to rework this data using that method. So this is a considerable revision, but with the same data. The original was pre-processed with Deep Sky Stacker and finished with PI. It took me quite a while to get the WBPP to work well. Mostly the issue was that unnecessarily using the cosmetic correction during for calibration, there were numerous artifacts introduced. I believe that the registration did poorly because of these artifacts. So I skipped that (only useful if star registration fails due to numerous hot pixels) and I got a good stack. I do believe that I see some improvement in the final image, not including some presentation choices that I decided on with this new image.

Bottom line. Going on two months of cloudy skies and not much else to do but rework old data and learn new stuff. I hope to soon revisit this object since this is the result of not that much data.

Title: Improved version, and better color correction

Description: Slightly cropped vs. the 1st version. This image includes addtional data as well, but collected at the same time. Better reflects the gamma of the orginal vs. my newer closeup of just the core.
