Description

This object is one of my favourites, but there are some problems with the image itself. First of all there where thin clouds in the sky, so there could have been more details visible. Second, and far more terrible, i didn't match the correct distance between the Riccardi-Reducer and the CCD, so all stars are elongated (the more distance from the center, the more elongated). I spotted the problem while imaging, but i didn't thought that it would be that horrible.

So the first thing i will do tonight is to correct that. Astrometry.net is very helpful here: You can take an image, upload it to nova.astrometry.net and it will tell you the pixel scale in arcseconds. By using the CCD-Calculator on Astronomy.tools you know which pixel scale is needed for your configuration. In my case it should be 2.12"/pixel. Yesterday the pixel scale was 2.07"/pixel, which means the reducer reduced by 0.77 instead of 0.75. I was told that the Riccardi-Reducer is very sensitive when it comes to the correct distance, and now i can prove that this is correct :-)
