Description

Another panorama from the 12th December session. With very poor seeing but I repeated the same approach as for the Faraday image: massive amount of captured images (85000) per each of the 3 generously overlapped panels on a mosaic. From the 85000 images I only kept and stacked the best 1000 frames for each panel, and then when merging the three panels to create the panoramic view I selected (with software PTGUI) which focused parts (of those overlapping parts) to integrate in the final image. It has resulted a bit more noise that I'd like...and with not very consistent sharpness across the image... but very happy of the overall result considering the raw videos.

Three aspects that I would like to highlight from this image:

1) I was lucky to resolve the craterlet on the top of the central peak (around 1 mile in diameter! You can check the version F with a cropped view). I find it a very cool cosmic coincidence"

2) the high walls on the N-E (in shadow in the image). It is a 4km wall... mindblowing!! Just for reference the highest wall in the Himalayas (Rupal Face in Nanga Parbat) is about 4,5 Km high.

3) the surrounding area of old craters in this area. Besides, on the bottom left part in the shadows lies Ptolomeus crater, to which Albategnius relates not only in physical closeness but also in historic relevance as Al-Battani (Albategnius original name) advanced significantly the work of Ptolomeus. Just like the nearby Arzachel and Alphonsus. The colocation of these craters names and their relation all through History makes, in my opinion, a wonderful area of the Moon, from the point of view of photography, moon features, and astronony History (as I wrote in the description of the image "The Long Shadow of Arzachel")

I hope that you like it (any question or suggestion of improvement is very much welcome!!)

Take care and enjoy the sky!
