Description

Moon 98.6% ISO Tests

So I final get a Clear Sky Night without having to get up early for work the next day. I check Stellarium to pick a DSO and what do I find, a 98.6% Moon at my location and time.

Someone once said: “When the Moon is out – Shoot the Moon.” I can’t remember who said that.

It would have taken me two and a half minutes to shoot 30 images of the Moon shooting every 5 seconds, what fun is that! So, being a physicist I had to come up with an experiment. So I shot 10 images of the Moon at four different ISO setting; 100, 200, 400, and 800, changing the shutter speed from 1/500, 1/1000, 1/2500, to 1/4000 for each ISO setting.

Trying to keep the post processing the same as much as possible, I found that this one at an ISO 800, 1/4000 second, f/6.3, at 600 mm focal length was the best of the four, although not much.
