Description

I was testing the optical quality of my tiny Astro-Tech AT60ED refractor on a target that is known to cause reflections and star spikes. This is 2.5hrs on M45, captured using a One Shot Color camera (ASI071MC Pro), and I cannot see even a hint of chromatic aberration in the image. I'm very pleased with the results, especially since the AT60ED is so inexpensive! I'd highly recommend this refractor to anyone wanting to get into this hobby.

The Pleiades, also known as the Seven Sisters or Subaru, are an open star cluster containing very bright, middle-aged stars. This star cluster is bright enough to be seen with the naked eye (you can easily identify 6 of the brightest stars, but with good vision you can see up to 8 stars without any telescope).

Fun fact: This star cluster, called Subaru in Japanese, was chosen as the brand name of Japanese car manufacturer, Subaru automobiles, and is depicted in the firm's six-star logo. Now that you know this, I’m sure you’ll notice it on the logo of Subaru cars the next time you see them. 🙂

I guess the Greek saw 7 stars (Seven Sisters), whereas the Japanese only saw 6 (6 Stars), leading to different counts in their respective names.
