Description

Captured New Years eve from my backyard  as an EAA activity.

Started capturing as Orion rose above the hills to the South East and followed it to until it was high in the sky to the South.
Goal was to capture Barnard´s Loop, the Rosette Nebula etc were an added bonus with the wide FOV of the EFS 18-55, which I set at about 33 mm.  With the  25 C high day temps and 12 C nights temps  I was constantly battling dew on the lens with a hairdryer every 15 mins. Need to invest in a dew shield and fan for the lens!!

Very satisfied with the many features in this shot  - M42, the Rosette Nebula,  the flame nebula, and can even pick out the horse head. Can even see Triffid, Swan and Eagle Nebula to the left below the Rosette!

This was a first test of a used HEQ5 pro - mod mount I picked up used a few months ago.  Also, a good test for the L-extreme pro filter.  I´d tried the previous night with an UV-IR cut filter, but just too many stars and too much light pollution

Captured and Live  stacked in SharpCap  as an EAA activity. Processed in Startools to generate this image.

The Livestack showed the loop within a few minutes, so I knew I was on the right track.  For more info on the original EAA images click here.  https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/144516-eaa-image-gallery/?p=11608007

The Orion stars were originally tighter, but  I decided to  use the synthetic star module in Startools to globally enhance the brighter stars -  to make the constellation structure more obvious. , This image is 67 frames  x 1min. I have several more hours that I need to incorporate into the stack at some point.
