Description

Revision 2/2023:  This was a very early attempt after starting in this astrophotography thing.  As you can see below, my understanding of how to do mosaics was poor.  There are also a lot of other bad things about the original image as well.  And the data wasn't so hot either.  This revision was an attempt to correct some of the mistakes made earlier and see if I could get a significantly better image.  There is nothing I could do about the data, however.  Poor stars in some of the edge and corner regions were due to tile issues and are just something I had to live with.  This resulted in some double stars after BXT corrected some of the stars.  I guess I could have cropped them, but they are less than noticable other than pixel peeping.  This is really not one of those, since it is a 2 panel mosaic.  Not much to add, other than it is better in some aspects.  There is a bit more data from added subs in this image.

Failure of photometric color correction (an all too common experience) has finally forced me to adopt Spectrophotometric Color Calibration.  Not too pleased with having to download the huge GAIA catalogs, but it does work faster.  I appreciate that it is supposedly better via accuracy, but for my work not really necessary.  Except when the alternatives fail...

I kind of winced last week when I got a like or two on the original.  Knowing that I was going to process this next.  Still a lot of issues with this, but I do get embarassed from some of my old stuff...

Old Description:
This is a two panel mosaic. I am new to mosaic-ing thing, so of course I chose to do it backward. Not the least of which was to begin investigating how to do a mosaic after I processed each image.

So there are a number of artifacts.

In addition, I processed the bottom panel to help preserve the M87 jet visually, even though it ended up being so small that it was pointless. However, to get the image into the mosaic and then dumb it down so that I could upload it, the jet ends up looking like a thumb sticking out of a fist. Really there is little detail at that scale with a wide field scope anyway. Lesson learned. I may revisit the data as I learn more with PI.
