Description

NGC 1491 is a faint emission nebula in Perseus with some very bright central details. I captured this nebula in narrow band but chose a different processing path compared to my other narrow band projects. The Ha data was very strong, but there was decent signal in SII and OIII. I really liked the way a natural palette looks for this subject, but also found the Ha data covered the full subject. Give the coverage of the Ha data and its strong signal, I decided to use it for luminance. The result is nice red - blue palette with great detail.

The specific color mix:

R = SII

G = SII * 0.40 + OIII * 0.60

B = OIII

L = Ha

Description: My background was looking lighter online than my local monitor. Applied sRGB color profile and it seems to make a difference.
