Description

Messier 3 (NGC 5272) globular cluster in the constellation of Canes Venatici. It is one of the best-studied globular clusters and one of the finest northern globular clusters and one of the largest and brightest, and is made up of around 500,000 stars. A.R.Sandage counted some 44,500 stars from 200” photographic plates. It is estimated to be 11.4 billion years old. It is about 32,600 light-years distant. Messier 3 is metal rich with a large percentage of heavier metals. The spectra must be complex it would be fun to see.

This image was taken over several nights using a 6" F/6.45 Melior Apo, and a QHY 600 Pro with Astrodon RGB, Gain at 56 and offset at 64.
