Description

W63 is an elliptically-shaped supernova remnant in Cygnus.  The remnant is faintly visible in Oiii light and is engulfed in a fairly bright region of H-alpha emission nebulae.  Its distance from Earth is estimated at 5000 light years with the shell diameter measuring 150 light years across.  Light from the exploding star would have reached Earth over 15,000 years ago.  So far, no progenitor star has been identified.

In mid-April, I began collecting Oiii data when the target was rising above 30 degrees in the east at 3 AM.  I imaged for 13 nights over a 1-month period to collect all the data for the narrowband and RGB channels, putting half of the emphasis and effort on the Oiii channel data to compensate for the faint signal.  The three narrowband channels were combined in the final image using an HSO color palette.  The stars were removed from the NB channels and the RGB data was used for the stars in the final image.
