Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a double ring spiral galaxy located 80 million light years away in the constellation of Fornax at a declination of -29 degrees.  It is a magnitude 11.4 galaxy which spans 5 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a Milky Way size diameter of 120,000 light years.

This is a very interesting object.  The bright central white core is surrounded by a small oval inner disk, which in turn is surrounded by an inner ring.  This inner ring has bright ansae regions at the 1 o’clock and 7 o’clock positions, signaling a faint bar which transits the core from lower left to upper right.  The outer disk has a faint pseudo-ring.
