Description

This small object, also known as MCG-01-57-016, is a rarely imaged faint face-on galaxy located 60 million light years away in the constellation of Aquarius at a declination of -3 degrees. The galaxy spans 3 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 50,000 light years.

The galaxy is part of Arp's first category of "Low surface brightness" galaxies. As such, it is a tough object to image. The galaxy has an interesting structure with poorly defined core and arms. Many small star clusters are visible in the disk.

A few other interesting small galaxies are visible in the background.
