Description

It used to be that I was known as a "galaxy" guy (back in the early 2000s)- I liked the moniker quite a bit. Galaxies are very subtle astrophotographic creatures to process. Here then is a project I have been working on for many months. This is NGC 1232- something of a southern "whirlpool" galaxy- collision and all.

This is a straight RGB with more than 50 hours combined from a number of sources. This kind of image shows off the wonderful array of colors this spiral displays. Hopefully this reinvigorates the "galaxy guy"  nickname- it helps to offset the more common "nerd." 🙂

Special thanks to Mike Selby for augmenting the data set and helping me achieve this degree of color/contrast. Also thanks to TelescopeLive.com for helping me get the data for this complex project.
