Description

Globular cluster 47 Tucanae or NGC 104 is the second brightest glob as seen from Earth (after Omega Centauri) and is a dense swarm of up to a million stars located in the southern constellation Tuscana about 16,700 light-years away from Earth. The cluster itself is about 120 light-years across. The larger bright stars in the image are red giants who have puffed up and exhausted their nuclear fuel and are near their end of life.
