Description

After a couple of failed attempts at M45 as a newbie last winter, I have finally got a nice image after its back in season and I have a year under my belt. Same equipment, dslr & lens on tracker, except guiding this time. Last time I shot slightly stopped down, but the diffraction spikes from the aperture blades really obscured all the detail in the nebulosity! Shot wide open at f5.6 this time. I didn't have matching darks when I stacked it, and for some reason the image was exceptionally flat prior to calibration and using flats actually caused quite an anti-vignette effect which was not good. I decided to try calibration with bias only, and compared that to no cal at all. I couldn't see a difference so the final image was with no calibration. There was quite a bit of background noise, I could've stretched a bit harder but it just brought out too much noise. I settled on a medium stretch, and pleased enough with the compromise.
