Description

Andromeda Galaxy (M31) upper left, the bright star is Andromeda Beta (Mirach), and The Triangulum Galaxy (M33) lower right.

The Andromeda Galaxy and the Triangulum Galaxy are both spiral galaxies, like the Milky Way, and they are somewhere between 2.5 and 3 million light years away from us.

The Star Mirach, is a red giant star located in the constellation Andromeda, it is one of the two brightest stars in Andromeda, along with Alpheratz. It lies at a distance of 197 light years from Earth.

M33 is linked to M31 by several streams of neutral hydrogen and stars, which suggests that a past interaction between these two galaxies took place from 2 to 8 billion years ago, and a more violent encounter will occur 2.5 billion years in the future.
