Description

I haven't posted a Jupiter image for quite some time as the seeing has generally been fairly poor as the planet sets earlier each night and the atmosphere is often affected by the residual heat of the day. We have also had quite a strong jet stream of late.

However, for this capture with the GRS in transit the seeing was decent. I started with an NIR capture (642nm BP) with a 10 minute video , which was derotated with WinJUPOS before alignment, stacking and sharpening. I then went on to do 9 RGB runs of 1 minute per colour channel, but I only used the first 3 as the seeing dropped away considerably.

The yellow hue of the EZ is waning and it will surely return to its more usual white colour in due course. The area under the blue-green festoons south of the NEB is lighter in colour.
