Description

This tiny Abell PN, also known as PK 30+3.1, is located 30,000 light years away in the constellation of Serpens at a declination of 0 degrees.  It is listed as a magnitude 19.5 PN, but it seems brighter than that to me.

The PN spans 20 arc-seconds in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 3 light years.

HII dominates the signal in this elliptical nebula with a strong outer rim.  A central star is seen but I believe that the nebula is likely too far away for this to be the true progenitor star.  Also, almost all of the progenitor stars I have imaged are blue, not red.  Instead, I think the star may be a closer superimposed Milky Way star, like many of the other orange stars seen in the image.
