Description

NGC 457 also known as the Owl Cluster is an open star cluster in Cassiopeia and 7,900 lightyears away. In the cluster are about 150 starts of magnitude 12 – 15.

We can see two bright stars Phi-1 magnitude 5 and Phi 2 magnitude 7. Both are supergiants.

Phi-1 has a diameter of 250 times the Sun, or a diameter of 348 million kilometres, thus much larger than the orbit of the Earth around the Sun and a bit smaller than the orbit of Mars.
