Description

This image is composed of 3 hours and 26 minutes of images from 6 imaging sessions around the full moon on February 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18, 2022. iTelescope offers the telescopes for free during this period, but you are limited to 1 hour sessions. I used telescopes T19 and T24, located in New Mexico and California, respectively. You can look at the specs for each on the iTelescope website.

The outer edges of this galaxy extend much further than what I was able to see in my images - see other images on astrobin to see the extent of this beautiful galaxy. This just goes to show the limitations of imaging around the full moon, or in light polluted skies.

Of particular note in this galaxy is the massive H II region NGC 2404. It is one of the largest known H II regions and is approximately 940 ly in diameter!
