Description

I had a few nights of exceptional seeing recently, around 1 arcsecond. However, the moon is out thus I was limited to HII and OIII targets and M1 certainly qualifies. The image is a blend of the two channels for luminance. No RGB data was gathered thus HII was used for red, and OIII was used for green and blue. I was somewhat surprised to see how much OIII contributed and in some ways, dominated parts of the image and it came out quite unique.

Note the faint "jet" extending out the top of the nebula. Here's a discussion of the jet, discovered in 1970 by Sidney van den Bergh.

Crab Nebula Jet

At some point, I'll gather RGB for better star colors, but who knows when that will be. HII, 28x200s, OIII 25x250s.
