Description

This object is an open star cluster located 2400 light years away in the constellation of Perseus at a declination of +51 degrees. This magnitude 6.4 cluster of 40 stars spans 25 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 17 light years.

I find this to be a beautiful cluster which stands out well from the background. Because of its larger size, I imaged this big and bright cluster with my Tak 85 to obtain a wider background starfield. The cluster is triangular-shaped with a variety of colors, brightnesses, and sizes. There is not much dust in this part of the sky which helps maintain the vivid colors.
