Description

So I started out the even with the hope I might score some more pictures and get more practice with my new ASIAir - Plus.  Went out about 6pm and looked about my Phoenix residence and the clouds were clearing up.  Set up my Lunt LS80MT again with the ASI533MC and this time with an Optolong  L-eNHance dual band filter.  I figured with the filter and from what I saw on my previous M101 attempt, I need longer subs.  I set up the Plan on the Air to run 50 x 240" subs.  I needed the calibration frames so I set those up and started the bias/darks off and went in to get some dinner.  I come back out and well, the first shot you see uploaded is actually a 3-4 second hand held shot from my iPhone 12 in the dark.  That was what my Lunt was looking at.  Well, I'd set up the focus on both the guide and main before the clouds rolled it.  I figured I had nothing to lose other that some disk space I would free up in the morning so I kicked off the subs.  Low and behold the Air said it plate solved and the guiding did start.  The guiding looked horrible.  Like somewhere between "Give me a break" and "Are you out of your mind?".  Meh.... hit go and went to bed.  Got up, shot my flats and unloaded the SD card into PixInsight.  Out of the 50 subs only 5 were what I considers "ok".  Took those and processed them through and honestly I"m shocked at what I got.  I know it is not great.  Close up the stars are a tad oval and not sharp but overall, its ok I'd say especially given the miserable seeing conditions.  Figure I can learn from this and use the project files to hone my PI skills.

Take that Murphy!

Title: M27 on a cloudy summer night in Phoenix

Description: This started out as the hope to get another clear night to test out my ASIAir-Plus. I still accomplished that but with a tad more effort and surprise than I'd expected.
