Description

This is a stack of three exposures on Elite Chrome 200 35mm slide film totalling 40 minutes (5, 15 and 20 minutes). All were taken through a Hutech IDAS LPS-P1 filter, which made it a bit of a challenge to get any of the original blue back in the image. It's still far too red.

Stacking isn't supposed to work as well for scanned film images as it does for images that are taken with digital sensors; film is by no means a linear-responding recording medium. But it is still quite effective at controlling noise, in this case primarily film grain.

All three exposures were manually guided through an 80mm f/5 achromatic refractor with dual, stacked barlows (2x and 2.8x) and a 12mm illuminated reticle eyepiece. The telescope was a Meade LXD 55 SN6 6-inch Schmidt-Newtonian, which I still use today.
