Description

NGC 5128 taken in LHaRGB. I am pleased to have captured the relativistic jet you can see which is a beam of ionised matter accelerated to around half the speed of light. This jet is associated with a supermassive black hole in the centre of the galaxy. There is still debate about whether this galaxy is a lenticular galaxy or an elliptical galaxy. It is also a very bright radio galaxy and subject to much study. Nonetheless, it must be a very violent and hostile place. I have reposted this image because my earlier revision wouldn't display correctly in Astrobin.
