Description

We wanted to make a beautiful galaxy but not too pictorial, our focus was on NGC 55. We have noticed a strong signal on nodules in the arms in Ha and OIII, but unfortunately it appears that the two signals practically confused... The Ha and OIII signals were added to the Red and Blue layers after subtraction of the red or blue signal (JB method. Auroux) the signal specific to its two layers. NGC 55 It is located in the Sculptor at about 5.9 million AL and its diameter is approximately 60,000 AL. It would be an Irregular galaxy but the latest studies would tend to show that it is rather a barred magellanic spiral galaxy (SB(s)m) seen from the edge.A magellanic spiral galaxy is a type of spiral galaxy with only one spiral arm that is usually small. Irregular galaxies do not have a special shape, they take longer to convert gaseous matter into stars because they are dwarf, they represent about 10% of known galaxies. We also see NGC 55 producing new stars. This detailed portrait of the galaxy NGC 55 highlights a bright core crossed by clouds of dust, regions indicative of pink star formation and young clusters of blue stars. Large shell structures and plumes have been identified which are signatures of recent supernovae and stellar winds from massive stars. Recent star formation has almost certainly occurred near the center of NGC 55 as recently as 8 million years ago although a fairly steady production of stars has occurred during the last 100 to 200 million years. Compared to other galaxies, NGC 55 has experienced a remarkably uniform star forming history. Full & details on astrobin : https://astrob.in/full/xc72a1/0/?real=
