Description

LDN 673

This dark nebula is a molecular cloud in the constellation Aquila. Its position is in the dark rift in the plane of the Milky Way and may hold the raw materials for future star formation. LDN 673 is only 670 light years from Earth so is relatively close by. This nebula proved somewhat unusual to process since the central themed object is dark, or non-luminous - the reverse of most objects of interest.

Images taken by a QSI683-wsg8 camera with LRGB filters and a Takahashi FSQ-106 scope on a Paramount MyT from Deep Sky West's dark sky site in New Mexico. Processed with PixInsight 1.8.8-5.
