Description

The Pleiades(M45), also called the Seven Sisters.

This was a tough one. My first two tries didn't come out as I would have liked. So, I took more images, got rid of a lot of the so-so images and reprocessed them with PixInsight. I read more tutorials on making masks and I think that helped. I think I was over stretching the masks.

Light Vortex Astronomy has some good tutorials.

The faint nebula in Pleiades is tricky. Faint areas have more noise, but overdoing the noise reduction smears the delicate structure within the nebula. A good mask and delicate use of noise reduction seems to be the key for me.

Sometimes I have to remind myself that I've only been doing this for about 9 months and I have a lot more to learn. I'm reading "Inside PixInsight" and that helps. Everyone uses PixInsight in different ways and I'm trying to find mine.

I've found a good way to even the colors, it seems to work for me.

1. Use ChannelExtraction to separate the colors.

2. Use LinearFit to give R,G, and B the same intensity.

3. Use ChannelCombination to put the colors back together.

4. Next, I use AutomaticBackgroundExtractor to even out the background colors.

5. Lastly, If I have unwanted green in areas that should not have green, I use SCNR to reduce green with a setting of about 0.96

Of course, every image has to be handled in a different way, and that takes a lot of practice and experimentation.
