Description

My rendition - based on Hubble Telescope data - of the Red Rectangle Nebula (HD44179) in the Monoceros Constellation; this is an incredibly remarkable object! It is a protoplanetary nebula at the early stages; the central carbon star has just started (well, within the past several hundred years, nothing in a universe time scale) repelling its gaseous envelope in a peculiar bi-cone shaped nebula.

I've read about this object in a book I'm reading at the moment (Spectral Atlas for Amateur Astronomers by Richard Walker) and I downloaded from the Hubble Legacy Archive website (https://hla.stsci.edu/) the raw data for this object and processed it using Photoshop. I downloaded a 3-colours data set (hst_07297_01_wfpc2_f631n_f588n_f467m_wf, Proposal ID 7297) and processed as RGB.

Hope you enjoy it!
