Description

Taken at 99.7% illumination with early dawn at the eastern limb the young phase showcased the shadows of craters Gauss north of Mare Crisium and crater and catena Humboldt east of the more known crater Petavius. Passing perigee, the Moon was at a distance of merely 357,400km and 2005 arc seconds wide. Sadly, seeing and transparency were poor for which reason I used a reducer. Anyway, for a while no further lunar attacks coming from here as we will have overcast for a few days starting with lots of rain tomorrow.

The final (color) image is a mosaic of 14 panels, 1ms exposure, gain 80, 250 frames, 170fps, raw8, 10-bit DAC, 1.5x drizzled. Color saturation is gentle as any further approach would result in red hues at the eastern limb.

Images in the revision are in monochrome taken with an ASI290MM and an IR640nm pass filter. All images are 1.5x drizzled.

I do envy the moon, irrespective of how often I image it, it never looks older.
