Description

My wife has says this looks like a peacock and has dubbed this “The Peacock Galaxy.”

NGC 3718, also known as Arp 214, is a warped spiral galaxy about 42 million light years from Earth. It is possibly interacting with NGC 3729 (at bottom of image) which is around 150,000 light years from NGC 3718. Also shown to the upper right of NGC 3718 is Hickson 56 – a group of five galaxies, with several interacting, located some 400 million light years from Earth.
