Description

This globular cluster, also known as NGC 1904, is located over 40,000 light years away in the southern constellation of Lepus at a declination of -25 degrees. It is one of my favorite globular star clusters.

The star colors are more varied than most clusters, with more orange giants and fewer bright blue stars. The cluster is estimated to contain over 150,000 stars. This object is unusual in that it lies opposite the galactic center of our galaxy and is suspected to be one of only two extragalactic Messier clusters, coming from our neighboring Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy.

I am not thrilled with this result - I am never as satisfied with the star quality from this C11 Edge reflector as I am with my refractors. But the focal length of the C11 shows this cluster up close and with more detail.
