Description

NGC2174 (aka Monkey Head Nebula) is located in the constellation Orion about 6,400 light-years away. NGC 2174 can be found with binoculars near the head of the Orion hunter during the winter and its size is larger than the full Moon. NGC 2174 is an H II emission nebula as well as a star-forming region surrounding loose open clusters of young stars.
This image is the Hubble color palette (SHO) plus the natural star color using R, G, and B filters.
