Description

There is a large dead tree behind a barn in our pasture. I've been wanting to try and get this tree in an image of the Milky Way. My brother in law has a huge light on a pole that lights up one side of the barn almost like daylight. I have no idea where the switch is for the light. So I tried to just make do. I set up in a location to where most of the glare from the light was on the other side of the barn from me. I really wanted more of the lower tree trunk but when I moved away from the tree there was more glare from the light on the other side of the barn and it didn't look natural. I took a couple of test images. I didn't like the way the images looked and I knew I would have processing problems. So I moved in close to the tree and shot almost directly overhead. This helped tremendously with the light glare from the dusk to dawn light. However I was only able to get the very top of the old dead tree. Also the top of the tree was illuminated by the dusk to dawn light and this caused problems trying to find settings that would work for the Milky Way and the tree without overexposing the tree. I've processed this image 4 or 5 times but I was never pleased with the image mainly because of how the tree looked. Finally today I managed to process an image that I can live with.
