This is my second try imaging the Veil Nebula. Last fall I gave it a first shot with my unmodified DSLR and a GT81 refractor. This time I imaged it using an astro-modified DSLR and narrowband filter. This was my first use of the dual band Optolong L-enhance filter that allows my to capture Ha and OIII/Hb bands simultaneously with my DSLR. This image was processed using a standard OSC DLR RGB image workflow, and I'm giving it a go using narrowband processing next.

Imaged with WO GT81 at F4.7 (382 mm focal length) using Flat6A II field flattener/0.8x reducer, Optolong L-Enhance dual narrowband filter, and full spectrum modified Nikon D5300.

Pre-processed using PixInsight Batch Pre-Processing (BPP) script. Images calibrated using darks, bias, and flats. Stacked 51 subs (360 sec at ISO 400) for a total integration time of ~5 hours. Post-processed in Pixinsight: Cropped, gradient removal with ABE, MLT for noise reduction, Photometric Color Calibration, stretched using Arcsinh then Histogram Transformation Tool, Curves Transformation, ACDNR for noise reduction, HDR transform, Morphological Transformation to shrink stars, Local histogram transform, and Color Saturation boost.

Re-do of nonlinear post-processing. Original version used STF settings for Histogram Tranformation which over-baked things a bit. Discovered that nonlinear noise reduction using ATrousWaveletTransform was killing the sharpness, so switched to ACDNR.
