Description

A very fascinating landscape for me is the 185 km long "Vallis Schröteri", which I discovered only by chance. A former underground lava channel that collapsed after the lava flow dried up. The valley is between 10 km and less than 1km wide at the end. The beginning of the valley north-east of Herodotus crater reminds us of the typical shape of a snake and is therefore also called "Cobra's Head". A narrow rille runs on the flat bottom of the valley. I am quite happy of being able to show it in my image.

The high contrast between the terminator in the west and the crater Aristarchus, one of the brightest spots on the moon, made it difficult for me to choose the right exposure time that evening. In addition, I'm pretty much at the limit here with the 2.5xBarlow used and the resulting focal length of 5080mm. With a gain of 267 = 45% and an exposure time of 6.6 ms, the footage seemed to be a bit dark to me.

Finally I picked 1000 frames out of 3 x 5000 = 15000 and stacked them with AS3!. Then I did sharpening and denoising in a first stage with Registax. The final image processing happened with Adobe Lightroom.

As always, I'm looking forward to harsh criticism and feedback.
