Description

NGC 7822 is a young star-forming complex in the constellation Cepheus. The complex encompasses the region of emission called Sharpless 171 and the young star cluster called Berkeley 59.
The bright star-forming region NGC 7822 is about 3,000 light-years away.
Stars could continue to form within the pillars by gravitational collapse, but as the pillars erode, any forming stars will eventually be cut off from their reservoir of stellar matter.
