Description

I had the privilege of spending five days at the La Silla observatory for the total solar eclipse of July 2nd 2019. While preparing for the eclipse, I spent the (long, moonless) nights imaging with my Samyang 135 mm (used at F/2.0) mounted on a star-adventurer mini borrowed from my friend João Marques for the occasion. I had lots of fun using that little setup next to the NTT 3.6 m telescope!

My first published image since I re-started to practice amateur astronomy a year an a half ago after a long hiatus of ~25 years. It took me a while to write enough python code to decently process my images... Part of the fun for me is in the algorithmics! I'm still procrastinating on several aspects of the processing, but I'm happy already with this version.

Rev. B (28 Aug 2020): About one year after my first post, I've improved my Python code sufficiently to reprocess that image. Improved stacking & star reduction resulting in tighter stars. Plus better colors (I think... let me know what you think ...)
