Description

The Witch Head Nebula, acquired near midnight ("the witching hour") on the night of December 8th. Located about 900 light years from Earth, the nebula is found in the constellation of Orion near the bright star Rigel. The dusty cloud of gas is a reflection nebula, with it's lovely blue color produced by the reflection of starlight off dusty grains of material. The name of this deep sky object is taken from its uncanny resemblance to a witch's head.
