Description

So far, this beautiful comet may be the only thing 2020 has going for it. After several weeks of frustrations with my view, it finally got within range of my main deep sky imaging scope. I was able to get a solid 18 minutes of images in to create a close-up look at the nucleus and the immediate tail structure.

The clumped tendrils here are the very beginnings of the ion tail and the hazy dust tail arcs off to the right.

The crazy thing about these images is that the ion tail visibly moved during my capture. This leads to a blurring of the tail, but the longer exposures were necessary to reveal the faint contrast. It’s a catch-22 and can really only be solved by faster optics. Need more scope!
