Description

For me one of the compelling features of the Orion Nebula are the wispy clouds of dust that surround the nebular core. The cloudy streaks give the impression of movement, like smoke or mist moving with the wind. I composed this image to highlight a beautiful portion of that dusty perimeter where the faint nebular clouds appear to be flowing rivulets converging at the core.

A combination of three different cameras and telescopes were used during three different years to acquire the data for this image. I used a 200mm Orion newtonian astrograph paired with a astro-modified Canon 70D DSLR and a WO GT71 refractor paired with  ZWO ASI1600MM to acquire the data used for the primary color mapping. Data taken with a WO FLT132 refractor paired with a ZWO ASI2600MM was used primarily for creation of a master luminance. All of the luminance data used in this image had a HFR of 1.7-2.4.
