Description

This object is an oval (E3) elliptical galaxy located 100 million light years away in the constellation of Ursa Major at a declination of +60 degrees. This magnitude 11 galaxy spans 4 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a width of 120,000 light years.

I really like the peanut (X-shape) of the core halo, which is not unusual for an oval elliptical. I expected this galaxy to have a more yellowish color, but it appears to be very white.

The Hubble image of this galaxy, as shown in the mouseover, is superb.
