NGC 6949

This Astrobin Debut Object is a spiral galaxy located 125 million light years away in the constellation of Cepheus at a declination of +65 degrees. This magnitude 14 galaxy spans 2 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 70,000 light years.

Although the core of this galaxy is small and round, a faint bar extends across it. The inner arms extend from the ends of the faint bar, spiraling out 360 degrees from the core.

I could find no information on this galaxy. Its biggest claim to fame is that, if you turn the last digit of its NGC designation upside down, its designation becomes that of NGC 6946, the famous Fireworks Galaxy. So if you Google this galaxy, you will find it incorrectly described as the Fireworks Galaxy by more than a few references.
