Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a near face-on spiral galaxy located 60 million light years away in the constellation of Sextans at a declination of +6 degrees.  It is a blue magnitude 12 galaxy which spans 4 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 70,000 light years.

This is a faint but beautiful spiral galaxy.  Numerous blue star clouds and purple emission regions are seen throughout the disk.  Dust lanes separate the disk into spiral arms that are hard to trace.

I like the 2 distant spiral galaxies just below NGC 3423, 1 billion light years away, which provide a nice size and color contrast to the main object.

This is another one of those regions of the sky in which there are many more galaxies than stars in the background of the image.
