Description

IC 410 is an open cluster of stars in the constellation of Auriga surrounded by an area of hydrogen and oxygen gas NGC 1893. Located approximately 12,400 light years away. The main interest of the phot is the two tadpole appearing formation in the top right of the image. These are suspect cooler areas of gas where active stellar nursing is birthing new stars. The bright central stars of the cluster are irradiating the head of the tadpoles while the solar winds morph the dark area behind into these shapes. These areas are ideal for new star formation as the cold gas coalesces together. Each tadpole is an estimated 10 light years long.

Having grown up in rural Kansas, I prefer the more green image that reminds me of the moss and muck in the small farm ponds I caught tadpoles in as a kid.
