Description

More widefield fun for me in UK summer time!  I've always found the Sadr region to be a dramatic part of the sky and it is great to be able to capture most of it in one image, after previously having done so using a mosaic.

Apart from Sadr itself, a magnitude 2.23 supergiant star in the Cygnus constellation 1,800 light years away, the two main features in this image, I believe, are the Gamma Cygni Nebula or IC1318, and the Crescent Nebula, NGC6888. IC1318 refers to the nebulosity immediately around Sadr from our perspective, even though it is 4,900 light years away and is sometimes known as the Butterfly Nebula. The Crescent Nebula is an emission nebula seen in the lower right of the image, lying about 5,000 light years from us.

Thanks for looking!
