Description

Continuing my imaging of Venus during the 2019-2020 evening apparition.,,

These images were captured on the night of May 16, 2020 (May 17 in UTC). Venus was ~9.9% illuminated in this image. Seeing was once again below average. This may be my last image in this series as it has become increasingly hard to image Venus low in the sky from my location. That and the week of cloudy nights that followed this image. I'm satisfied with having met my hope of capturing Venus down to 10% illumination. It has been a lot of fun capturing the evolution of Venus' disk this spring, definitely and new and interesting planetary imaging experience. Hard to believe how different the world was when this project started back in mid-February.

Imaged with a C8 Evo, ZWO ADC, Baader UV-IR Cut filters, and ZWO ASI224MC. Imaging train was configured to give ~F/20. Image capture using Firecapture (see below for exposure settings). Stacking in AutoStakkert3 (best 10% of ~42000 frames captured over 180 seconds). Color balancing and Wavelet sharpening in Registax6. Derotated and combined three images in WinJUPOS.

Exposure settings for UV-IR Cut Filter images: Shutter=0.3ms, Gain=250, Histogram=~50%, ~250 FPS
