Description

Repeating one more of the Sharpless2 Group to see what my new CMOS system can find with a deeper look at the H-alpha here....  and see if I can see a hidden PN.  Interesting for me to go over my old shots and how much time I spent to find ancillary objects.

Previous versions of SH2 138-9.  These are with the same Stellarvue but with the SBIG CCD at 5 and 11h on the CCD. The 11h was to pick up that pesky hidden PN PK105.

Note that Revision D was 2h of CMOS with very good offshore winds conditions rare for my area.  Star counts went from 2500 to 6000.  I have to try again and see if I can get a bit more detail in the PN.  Might be a good target for those with long FL scopes in dark areas.  I have to look on the Sharpless2 Group and see if there are better images.

From GalaxyMap:

Sh2 138:

Embedded in this compact HII region is a large star cluster resembling the Orion Trapezium cluster: it is centrally peaked around several massive stars, and is dense - more than 550 stars at its centre.[1]

Russeil combines Sh 2-138 and Sh 2-139 into one star formation region at the very uncertain distance of 29100 +/- 1400 pc. [2] 1. ^ Deharveng, L., Zavagno, A., Nadeau, D., et al. (1999). Sh2 139:

According to Avedisova, Sh 2-139 is ionised by two giant stars: LS III +57 38 (O9 III) and LS III +58 37 (B2 III). SIMBAD disagrees with the spectral classification of LS III +57 38, however, and gives it a much cooler spectral class of B5.

You can view an IPHAS hydrogen-alpha image of Sh 2-139 here.GENERAL NOTE ON SHARPLESS2 OBJECTS>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Title: Best 8/24 H-Alpha Images thanks to heatwave.

Description: Allows better visualization of PN. Due to heatwave in California had a rare offshore wind keeping humidity away. Threw away 16 other shots. Star counts twice as good in these images.
