Description

In 10 days, on July 14th, Earth will pass between the Sun and our friendly gas giant. This places Jupiter closest to us and is a great time to photograph it.

I took this shot in early morning a couple days ago. This is one of my better renditions of the planet, considering it’s still only about 25 degrees above the horizon here. This one displays the Great Red Spot.

I had a little fun with the coloration, using NIR, RGB, and UV for the red, green, and blue channels, respectively.

Enjoy!
