Description

This object is a group of 4 galaxies located 90 million light years away in the constellation of Ursa Major at a declination of +64 degrees.

The main galaxy in the group is at lower right, the face-on spiral galaxy NGC 2805. This galaxy spans 4 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of just over 100,000 light years. This galaxy is a dim low surface brightness (14.5) galaxy with a messy structure, perhaps from interactions with the other 3 galaxies. I like the line of blue star clusters across the bottom, and the overall galaxy tint of blue due to the presence of young stars. The outer disk, although dim, has a sense of chaos which intrigues me.

The other 3 members of the group are seen at upper left - NGC 2820 (the longest), NGC 2814 (to the right) and the irregular blue blob that is NGC 2820A/IC 2458. Despite their small sizes and almost edge-on view, these galaxies all have interesting structures as well.
